Job Description

Position Summary:

One of our clients, Infectious Disease Specialists of Southeastern Wisconsin (IDS), is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team as a Medical Assistant. The ideal candidate will possess a high attention to detail and excellent customer service skills. This is a full-time, permanent position that will be responsible for assisting physician and nursing staff while interacting directly with patients and insurance providers. Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Answer phone calls and assist callers with scheduling appointments, paging doctors and speaking with providers about patient needs.
  • Room patients including obtaining patient vitals, recording a brief health history and the reason for the visit.
  • Assist with minor wound care, dressing changes and PICC line removal under the supervision of an RN, MD, DO or PA.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for procedures and medications as required by insurance companies.
  • Ensure that exam rooms are kept clean, sanitized and well stocked by checking at beginning and end of each day.
  • Assist with administrative matters including printing and sorting faxes, filing and returning phone calls when required.
  • File paper charts upon appointment completion or as needed.
  • Understand and comply with all HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Communicate professionally at all times.
  • Administer immunizations.
  • Cross train on front desk, check out procedures and scheduling roles.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


Education/Experience: Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program, BLS certification and at least two years of experience working in a medical office is required. Completion of OSHA regulations training is required upon hire.

Computer skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet software and Practice Management Software required. EPIC knowledge or experience preferred.

Equipment: Working knowledge of the following: Telephone, copy machine, fax machine, printer, credit card machine, scanners, keyboard and medical equipment (blood pressure cuff, scale, thermometer and SPO2 meter)

Physical Demands:  Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and talk/hear.  The employee is frequently required to bend and kneel. Ability to safely lift at least 50 lbs is required.
