Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity for a Sales and Marketing Leader with deep industry knowledge to contribute to setting the market strategy of Fufeng Group’s US-based operation. The Director, Sales and Market Development is responsible for assessing sales potential across a range of product lines and markets to determine the demand and optimal product mix so that the necessary sales channels and manufacturing capabilities are developed.

This is a critical, highly visible position within the company’s newly formed U.S. entity that will work closely with the Vice President & General Manager of US and with the corporate commercial team. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess a wide range of bio-based food and industrial ingredient markets for attractiveness, competitive landscape, strategic fit, and the likelihood of new business acquisition for the company’s products and technologies.
  • Leverage existing knowledge, market research, customer insights, trade shows, technology, etc. to determine the size of the market, prospective customers, and price points which will be used in the US strategic plan development and contribute to the company’s positioning.
  • Utilize keen understanding of the market, trends, and dynamics to create winning strategies that support business growth and meets the financial and operational goals of the business.
  • Prospect, establish, and build relationships with customer contacts and potential channel partners to create company name recognition in the US market.
  • Build a comprehensive go-to-market strategy and operational business plans to identify and address targeted markets and customers.
  • Aid in the organizational design for the US commercial organization and build the corresponding sales channel strategies based on sales, market, and competitor intelligence. 
  • Implement various pricing strategies, including value-derived or cost-plus, appropriate for a wide range of products and markets. Build a corresponding customer segmentation program that complements such pricing strategies.
  • Translate customer and market feedback into recommendations for new product offerings and product development to add to the portfolio with consideration of functionality and procurement needs.
  • Coordinate external marketing initiatives utilizing both internal and third-party resources.
  • Maintain knowledge of current market trends and competition to regularly update the sales and marketing plans and keep the leadership team informed. 
  • Complete special projects and other duties as required.


Job Requirements

Experience, Education & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • At least ten (10) years of sales, segment marketing, or business development experience working in a B2B environment and previous experience in Food & Beverage, Animal Nutrition, Personal Care, or Biochemicals industries required. Previous experience working with ingredient distributors is strongly preferred.
  • Must have project management, strategic planning, and new market development experience with a proven track record of successful revenue growth in new markets.
  • Prior experience in customer-facing sales required along with comfort giving presentations.
  • Previous experience selling imported / exported products and a high-level understanding of the importation / exportation process. 
  • Possess a high degree of commercial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to work well in situations with ambiguity.
  • Capability to engage and build relationships across multiple departments within an organization and at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a high level of professionalism.
  • Must have an entrepreneurial spirit, a self-starter mindset, and a sense of urgency.
  • Team player that works collaboratively with all levels within the organization.
  • Familiarity using a CRM database system preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
